Upcoming Changes to DEFT Payment Options

Dear Owners,

 

DEFT, the payment service provider used for Owners Corporation fee payments, has announced an upcoming change to its payment options.

 

As this change is being implemented by DEFT and is outside the control of your Owners Corporation and Quantum United Management, we're providing advance notice so affected owners have plenty of time to make any necessary changes before it takes effect.

 

If you currently pay your Owners Corporation fees through DEFT using a credit or debit card, an important change is coming.

 

From 1 October 2026, DEFT will no longer accept payments made by credit or debit card.

WHY IS THIS CHANGING?

DEFT has advised that recent changes to card payment regulations and card scheme requirements have affected the way businesses can process card payments.

 

Following changes introduced by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), card companies including Visa and Mastercard have announced that businesses will no longer be permitted to apply surcharges to credit and debit card payments.

 

As a result, DEFT has made the decision to discontinue all payments made using credit or debit cards from 1 October 2026. This includes any automatic recurring payments (direct debit) linked to a credit or debit card. BPAY and PayID will continue to be available.

WHO NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION?

WHAT DO AFFECTED OWNERS NEED TO DO?

If you currently pay your Owners Corporation fees using a credit card, debit card, or recurring card payment through DEFT, you will need to arrange an alternative payment method before 1 October 2026.

 

DEFT will continue to offer the following payment options:

 

PayID

  • Fast, secure and fee-free payments through your online or mobile banking using your DEFT Reference Number.

 

BPAY

  • Convenient payments through your online or mobile banking using your existing DEFT payment details.

 

We encourage affected owners to update their payment arrangements well before the change takes effect to avoid any interruption to scheduled payments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I still pay my Owners Corporation fees online?

Yes. Online payment options will continue to be available through BPAY and PayID.

 

Do I need to do anything?

Only if you currently pay through DEFT using a credit or debit card.

If you pay via BPAY or PayID, no action is required.

 

Will my DEFT Reference Number change?

No. Your DEFT Reference Number will remain the same and can continue to be used when making payments via BPAY or PayID.

 

What happens to my recurring card payment?

If you have a recurring payment arrangement linked to a credit or debit card, you will need to establish an alternative payment method before 1 October 2026.

 

What payment options will still be available?

The following DEFT payment methods will remain available:

  • PayID
  • BPAY
